The Artist

Gizmo is widely recognized as a bassist and music director, but he has spent the last year working on his new album “Red Balloon,” where he is showcasing another, and perhaps the most captivating side of himself as a singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, and producer.

He has collaborated with many world-renowned musicians including co-producer Derrick Hodge, Casey Benjamin, Jamire Williams, George W. Russell, Jr, Ilan Bar-Lavi, and co- producer Gabo Lugo to create a compelling record that expresses a personal side of Gizmo. The 13 track debut record was released in October 2012 with Revive Music.

Throughout 2013, GIZMO and his live ensemble have toured the United States and Canada, with shows planned in Europe this summer playing venues such as the historic Blue Note Jazz Club (NYC), and Montreal’s Phi Centre.

“Gizmo is creativity in the flesh. Labeling his art is useless, with a single note, the 21-year-old can take you from genre to genre in his music.”

“Or the bassist Kenneth Rodgers, who grew up in the Philadelphia jazz scene, and is a student at Berklee College of Music. As Gizmo, he’s also an R&B arranger, songwriter and vocalist, and you hear those talents on his debut album Red Balloon. He’s 21 years old.”

“At only 21 years old bassist, Kenneth “Gizmo” Rodgers has a resume musicians twice his age would kill for. He’s worked with Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, Talib Kweli and Meshell Ndegeocello—who he counts as a friend”

“It’s going to be a creative and hard-to-categorize fusion of jazz, hip-hop and experimental sensibilities. We could go on about Gizmo’s frenetic creativity, how his sound combines dusted hip-hop drums, guitar sonics ranging from shoegaze to feedback and rambling monologues worthy of a Thelonious Monk documentary.
